The Masai Mara was recently named the Seventh Wonder of the modern World for staging the greatest wildlife spectacle on earth. Its one of the world’s last remaining ecosystems harmonizing animal and nature. Masai Mara is where you’ll have one of those breath-taking, heart-stopping moments, of a million teeming wildebeest making their annual migration across the Mara, and your first face to face encounter with the big five of Kenya.

Game drives are delightful and our informative Guides ensure that you sight most, if not all of Kenya’s Big Five and other plains Game. There is also the Maasai Cultural Village where you can experience first hand, one of the few remaining ancient great cultures of the world.

Lake Nakuru National Park also branded as ‘The bird watcher’s paradise’ is dubbed ‘the greatest bird spectacle on earth’ due to the millions of Fuchsia-Pink Flamingos that flock to feed on the teeming algae of its alkaline waters. Lake Nakuru is also an Ornithologist’s Paradise. It has a uniquely rewarding game-viewing venue and a sanctuary for both the Black Rhino and the endangered White Rhino. Its pink-frosted shores and sky-mirrored waters also yield some of the most evocatively beautiful photo-images in Africa.

ITINERARY

DAY 1: Nairobi – Masai Mara

Depart Nairobi at 0730hrs and drive north down the escarpment of the Great Rift Valley. We take a brief stop at Viewpoint for a few camera shots of this amazing natural phenomenon. The history of this valley dates back to thousands of years during some great earth movements that caused massive shifting of the earth’s foundation rocks. This massive valley stretches from the Middle East down through East Africa to Mozambique in Southern Africa holding along great lakes. (e.g. Victoria, Turkana, Baringo, Bogoria, Nakuru, Naivasha, Elementaita, Magadi, Natron, Tanganyika, etc). Drive through the Great Rift Valley, the dramatic landscape and the plains inhabited by the Maasai pastoralists and across the ‘bread basket’ of Kenya covered with acres of wheat and barley. We take a brief stop at Narok town for refuelling and then climb the western wall entering Hemingway’s country; “Serengeti Plains”. The Masai Mara Game Reserve adjoins Tanzania’s Serengeti National Park and is reached in time for lunch at Mara Chui Safari Camp.

At 4pm proceed for an evening game viewing drive in search of black manned Lions, Elephants, Leopards, Cheetahs, Buffalos and other plains game. The sighting of Rhino and Leopard cannot be guaranteed and luck is a necessary factor as they are sparsely numbered, very shy and elusive. Return to the Camp at 1830hrs for dinner and overnight.

DAY 2: Masai Mara

After breakfast at 0730hrs, start tracking game with your Animal Passion Tours & Safaris guide in this Reserve which borders Tanzania’s Serengeti National Park as only an artificial border separates the two.

Meaning dotted plains in the Maasai language, Mara is a vast area with scattered pockets of Acacia woodland inhabiting a wide variety of fauna. The Masai Mara is renowned for staging the Great Migration, recently named as the seventh wonder of the modern world.

A full day is spent game viewing across (from 0800-1800 hrs) the rich, tree studded grassland and rolling hills. This reserve is the most visited Park in Kenya and the best for game as it has an extensive road and track network, which allows excellent photography and close viewing opportunities. The famous Mara is renowned for its great herds of plains game, black manned Lions, Leopards and Cheetahs. It also has numerous Elephants and virtually every type of wildlife to be found in Kenya. Antelopes, Wildebeests, Zebras and Maasai Giraffes can be seen as well as scavengers like Hyenas and Vultures. Bird life is also prolific with over 450 species having been recorded.

View game enroute to the border mark of Kenya and Tanzania to take a few camera shots of the Serengeti plains and then to Mara River where you’ll enjoy a picnic lunch besides the river as you watch Hippos and with luck Crocodiles on the river bank. You’ll also take a walk along the river bank escorted by an armed Ranger to take a closer glimpse of the Hippos and Crocodiles basking on the rocks and one of the Wildebeests crossing points. We return to Mara Chui Safari Camp at 1600hrs.

EXTRA ACTIVITY: At 1700hrs, visit a nearby Masai village to see their nomadic lifestyle. (At an extra fee payable directly to the Maasai villagers – The Maasai are famous for their bravery, as they have co-existed with the animals over the years.) Return to the Mara Chui Safari Camp at 1830hrs for dinner and overnight.

DAY 3: Masai Mara – Lake Nakuru National Park.

Wake up early for Pre-breakfast game drive from 0630 – 0830 hrs, and then back to the Mara Chui Safari Camp for late leisurely breakfast. After checking out from the Camp we depart Masai Mara region, taking lunch en route (at Narok town), having been to Kenya’s finest wildlife sanctuary. Proceed with safari with a stopover for panoramic views of the Rift Valley and Lake Elementaita arriving at Nakuru in the late afternoon. On arrival, check in at a Hotel for dinner and overnight at on Full Board Basis.

Day 4: Lake Nakuru National Park – Nairobi.
After breakfast at 0700hrs, proceed for a game viewing drive in the Park, which has prolific Flamingoes, White Pelicans and the Marabou Stork among others. Waterbuck and Cape Buffalo can be seen near the shoreline. Rothschild’s Giraffe and the White Rhino are additional attractions among other species of plains game and cats like Lion.

Lake Nakuru National Park lies in the volcano strewn Rift Valley and is one of the chain of 8 Lakes which stretch the length of Kenya from Ethiopia to Tanzania. Lake Nakuru National Park is dubbed ‘the greatest bird spectacle on earth’ due to the millions of Fuchsia-Pink Flamingos that flock to feed on the teeming algae of its alkaline waters. Lake Nakuru is also an Ornithologist’s Paradise. It has a uniquely rewarding game-viewing venue and a sanctuary for both the Black Rhino and the endangered White Rhino. The park offers an incredible 450 different species of birds which are water, fish-eating, terrestrial and migratory birds to include Pelican, Fish Eagle, Secretary Bird, Heron, Egret, Hammerkop and Grebe. It’s known as the Bird Watchers Paradise. With luck you may spot Leopard, which is rather elusive. Return to Genevieve Hotel for lunch later drive back to Nairobi where the tour ends.
